The Fifth International Conference on Brand Management
The Fifth International Conference on Brand Management was held on 1 December 2009 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Similar to previous years, it featured a mix of renowned speakers from academia and multinationals including Prof. David J. Reibstein from The Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania, Ms Eva Yu from L'Oreal Hong Kong Limited, Ms Kathy Chan from Bossini International Holdings Limited, Mr Vincent Wong from IBM China/Hong Kong Limited, Mr Chong Got from Premium Motors Limited – Audi, Mr Wang Ziliang from Geely Holding Group, Mr Dirk Dalichau from Miramar International Hotel Management Corporation S.A., and Ms Poon Wai from Ajisen (China) Holdings Limited. The theme of the conference was Brand Driven Innovation: Design, Management and Value.
This year also marked a special year for the event as the Asian Centre for Brand Management welcomed its sponsors Kowloon Watch Company and Sa Sa Cosmetic Co. Limited on board.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr Duncan W. Pescod, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology) of the HKSAR Government and Prof. Thomas K.S. Wong, PolyU Vice President (Management) and Chair Professor of Nursing.
Presentation topics included “Investing your brand and innovation when the economy is down” by Prof. Reibstein as well as topics on innovation in the beauty business, building and rebuilding a brand in the fashion retail industry, brand communities and social media, and a success story of Audi in Hong Kong and China.
The final session, “Dialogue with Executives” featured Dr Wang Zhigang of Hisense (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd., Mr Harry Yeung of LKK Health Products Group Ltd., Mr David Au of LiFung Trinity (Management) Limited and Mr Chan Sai-cheong of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Co. Ltd., who shared the experiences in brand management in Mainland China.
Overall, the event was a huge success and generated positive feedback from delegates. This year, the conference drew over 500 participants from Asia Pacific, America, Canada as well as Europe, making it a truly international event.
